Introduction of HTML Headings
When you write a paragraph, you define its shorter version as heading before the paragraph. Because of the heading, the user is able to know which topic is discussed in the paragraph.
Whenever a user reads an article, first he sees all the headings at once and then starts reading the article. Such a user does this to check whether the information he is looking for is present in that article or not.
By defining the headings, you provide a short version of your article, so that the user can guess the information provided in that article.
Whenever you define a text as a heading, it appears to be bigger and bold on the webpage. It shows the headings in the webpage different from the normal text but to show the text bigger and bolder you should not define it as a heading.
Whenever you define a heading in HTML, space gets added to the line break before and after it. This helps to separate headings from being unique and the user's attention quickly goes to them.
Search engines use the headings of an article to structure and index that article. Therefore you must use headings in your webpages.
Types of HTML Headings
HTML provides you headings of 6 level. They are used to define topics and subtopics, respectively. Their list is being given below.
1. <h1> - This is the most important heading tag. It is used to define the main heading of the article. It should be used only once in the document. Search engine crawlers find out what an article is about.
2. <h2> - This is the subheading tag. By this you define subheadings. You can divide a large section into several sections by this tag.
3. <h3> - This is a minor heading tag. With this heading, you can represent subtopics by defining in many minor topics.
4. <h4> - This is a normal heading tag of the fourth level so that you can divide the content into sections at the even more deep level.
5. <h5> - This is the fifth level small heading tag and also lets you define the headings. But it is used to define the content at the deep level.
6. <h6> - This is the sixth level extra small heading tag and also you can define heading. This is very close to the normal text. With this, you can present many topics as a list.
